Paraphrase Jane

Alex was reading me and James a story when Jane walked in and asked if she, too, could read us a book.
Alex graciously replied, "You can read two."
So Jane picked out two books and quietly came up to me (so as not to disturb Alex) and asked, "Mom, can I paraphrase?"
I said, "Sure."
Soon it was her turn to read.

And she read the entire book, word for word.
When she was done I said, "Jane, I thought you were going to paraphrase."
She replied, "Mom, I was going to do that after I read the book."
