Sean went out yesterday morning to check on the chickens and found an egg! It was a bit cracked, so we had to throw it away, but this morning he was up bright and early (such the farmer!) to check on the night's results to find another egg - sans cracks. It is small (about half the size of store-bought eggs) but the reading I've been doing says they may be small/misshapen for the first little bit while their bodies get used to their new role. Also, my reading tells me that farmers typically sell eggs from older hens, which leads me to believe that the ones in the stores are from older hens - hence, when my hens get older the eggs will get bigger (or so I hope!).
In any case, we're so excited to have producing hens!
